English Sparkling Wine
English sparkling wine is a world-class product – and one which will keep on gaining plaudits thanks to continued investment, vine age and support from patriotic wine drinkers. Remarkably, the belt of chalky soil so prized by the Champenois of northern France runs on, north-west, emerging in the southern English counties of Kent, Sussex and Hampshire. The grape varieties from Champagne, namely Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier have therefore been quite suited to the southern English counties; all they need is a little more sunshine. In recent years this has occurred, propelling English Sparklers to new realms of popularity. With the improvement in technology, and provided the climate continues to warm, the future looks very bright for English Sparkling Wine producers.
