About the Winery
Viña Concha y Toro was founded in 1883 by Don Melchor de Concha y Toro and his wife Doña Emiliana Subercaseaux. They planted their first vineyard of Bordeaux varieties in the Maipo Valley, attracted by the region’s advantageous position between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean. Since then, the company has grown enormously with 30 vineyards spanning over 5700 hectares of Chile’s Central Valley and expanded world-wide allying itself to Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1997 to extend into the realms of the very finest wines.
The first vintage of Don Melchor was 1987, and from the beginning, French winemaker Jacques Boissenot, one of Bordeaux’s most respected consultants, has participated in defining and making the final blend of each Don Melchor since the first vintage. Today, his son, Eric Boissenot, continues his legacy.
Don Melchor is now Chile’s most award-winning wine on a global scale and a true New World benchmark.
